Fourth of July Snack-Watermelon Rockets

Everyone loves a fresh, patriotic snack during their Fourth of July BBQ. Every year, I fret over what to bring to the BBQ. I think I have finally figured it out. I love a fruit salad, and wanted to make something to bring that people could grab and go. This is a spin on fruit salad that is fun for all to eat.

img_8914My family loves fruit and it’s so refreshing on a hot day. These fruit sticks are easy, fun, and fast to take to a BBQ. They are also red and blue which makes them patriotic!

You’ll need:

  • 1 large watermelon

  • 1 basket blueberries

  • 1 package of skewers

  • 1 cookie cutter(optional)

Directions:

  • Skew on as many blueberries as you want. We found that about 10 was a good number

  • Cut watermelon into shapes of your choice. You can even use a cookie cutter if you prefer

  • put watermelon on top

  • Serve in cup for easy grab and go

This fun snack was quick and easy to make. Enlist your toddler to help. You can make it a learning experience by practicing counting the number of blueberries you put on. You can also talk about colors, and the American Flag. Also, talk about the shapes you use. Finally, this is an excellent skill in practicing fine motor skills if you have your child put the blueberries on the skewer. Have fun with it, and let me know if you give it a try!
